Ten Simple Ayurveda Tips for Life Long Health
“Do We Care Better for Our Cars Than our Bodies?” Strangely enough I really think so. We are concerned more about being stranded on the freeway somewhere than stranding our selves in the hospital with heart attack someday. We do not fill the car with wrong type of gasoline but yet we will fill our own body with wrong types of food. We give our car a break while it is in the garage for regular tune ups. But we do not take a break even while eating meals. And then we wonder in a few years, in spite of eating healthy, how we could land a disease. Today I want to share ten simple Ayurveda Tips to change the lifestyle for better health and avoid chronic illnesses.
You are doing our best to live right to keep your body healthy and avoid illnesses. My goal is to augment your effort by making some suggestions, perhaps add missing links. Following are ten simple Ayurveda tips based on ancient wisdom of natural wellness:
- Drink a glass of warm to hot water (not coffee), first thing when you wake up.
- Get to know your Body Constitution. Each person is uniquely built with physio-psychological constitution. Based on your constitution, certain foods and activities are more suitable for you than others. - Select foods according to your Body Constitution. Food is the first medicine for the body. Clean eating with right foods help prevent your body from becoming sick in the first place. From an Ayurvedic consultation, receive a personalized Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle chart with list of recommended herbs, spices, and foods as per your body constitution .
- Make eating a ritual. Take the time to make it light and relaxed time while offering food with love to your body. Do mindful eating. Connect with your body and mind while enjoying every bite full of tasty flavors and nutrition. Disconnect from work, internet, TV, and other interruptions. Studies have shown when we are distracted with these activities while eating, you gain weight by unknowingly eating more food and/or you absorb less nutrition from your food, even if the food is full of nutrition. Allow your mind to relax and enjoy!
- After a meal for optimum digestion, your stomach should be half full with “solids”, one quarter full with liquid, and one quarter empty with “air”.
- Allow 4-5 hours in between meals. When possible eat at least one meal per day with a family or a group of friends.
- Drink very little water with the meals. Wait about 45 minutes and drink good amount of water. NEVER drink ICED water/drinks just before, during, and right after the meals. Iced water compromises your digestive fire leading to slow or inefficient digestion.
- Do at least once per week Oileation (Ayurvedic Massage)of your body as per your Body Constitution. Ayurvedic Massage is a loving application of oil all over your body with light massaging motions. Leave the oil to soak in for 25 minutes before taking a shower. This nourishes your body while slows down aging. Ayurvedic massage oil is available here.
- Exercising 2-3 times a week. This is nothing new; however, I want to include this for some of us who needs extra motivation and reminders. In my gym, I regularly meet some people who can barely walk but they are there doing their thing. I call them just pure inspiration for the rest of us. Aerobics, sports, walking, yoga, weights, and other resistance exercises are all good. Choose your exercises as per your body condition and your goals.
- Form a daily and weekly routine! The MOST important part is- STICK to it

Most of us know of ginger but have you ever wondered about the health benefits of ginger? And I certainly hope many of you are already consuming daily in your diet. If you are not then after reading this article, you will be inspired to take it DAILY. For those who are already using it will find numerous health benefits of ginger in this article. Wellness coaches in USA are quickly learning about ginger and suggesting it to their clients. And why not, any person desiring right eating would take this to heart and develop recipes with it or order food with ginger. Ginger has been part of food & medicine in eastern cultures for thousands of years.
Almost anyone can take ginger and more than likely will have some benefit in some part of their body systems. Take a look at the following several health benefits of ginger:

What is Unconditional Love and Its Role in Our Relationships?
What is unconditional love? Simple as it may appear, it is perhaps the most misunderstood & misused phrase in our relationships. Unconditional love is a benevolent feeling that emerges from deeper level of our Consciousness (our life coach) for all of creation- rocks, plants, animals, human beings, etc., regardless of their shape, size, color, nature, or actions in the nature. It is because every one of us has the same Universal Consciousness that is pervading through all life & nonlife forms connecting all of creation to ONE source.
Observe nature & you will find Universal Consciousness expressing Itself differently through each entity in creation depending upon what “clothing” it’s wearing and what role it’s playing in the nature. Thus the Universal Consciousness is conditioned by the “clothing” it is wearing. Once we understand this truth, living with unconditional love for all forms & beings becomes not only easy but brings peace to us as well.
What is unconditional love in our relationships with other beings and creation around us? Well, let me try to answer this by telling an interesting mythological story. A very long time ago a king cobra snake ruled good middle portion of the forest by using his wits & scary tactics. Most people & animals were scared of him and tried to take different trails to avoid confronting him. One day the snake overheard some people travelling thru the forest about a great saint. Out of curiosity, snake decided to go and listen to what this saint had to say. Snake didn’t want to create any trouble around so many people so he hid himself between the rocks where he could still clearly hear the saint. The saint spoke truths about of Universal Consciousness, unconditional love, and peace. The message resonated with snake and from that day forward he decided to change his behavior towards his fellow beings. The snake started to approach all passing through with politeness & affection but much to his dismay he met with rejection and even got stones thrown at him. Injured, bruised, & with tears in skin, snake was lying on the side of a trail when the saint just happen to pass thru there. Saint asked the snake what happened. After listening to the snake’s story, saint clarified that first you must know who you are before jumping into showing unconditional love to just anyone.
The story makes a point, even though unconditional love resonates at our consciousness level, we can not relate unconditionally at the physical level. First we must know our own conditioning, what “clothing” are we wearing, and then be aware of what “clothing” a person or creation in front of us is wearing. So while the Loving can and should be unconditional, the Relating at physical level can not be unconditional. If we do not follow this nature’s rule we will be battered, bruised, abused, and left in misery in our relationships.
One Notable Exception– This rule doesn’t apply to a Self-realized person. Such a person has merged & become one with consciousness. His thoughts & actions are no longer conditioned by his own (ego) body mind & intellect. Loving & relating for such a person has transcended all physical conditioning & is seen & felt by others simply as pure consciousness. Examples are Christ, Buddha, & a few others.
So before we reach the Self-realized state, what can we do?
As long as we engage in life thru our physical body, mind, and intellect, we see ourselves as separate & distinct from others and our outward actions are conditioned with our desires and ego. Inadvertently, this makes the relating with the outer physical world conditional as well. Therefore, for now we must utilize our Unconditional Love (life coach) to guide our actions to be selfless and harmless to others and environment around us. As a result, one can imagine harmonious relationships, peace, and promoting health & wellness in their lives.

How to Detoxify Body Naturally in 7 Days?
Vacation and holidays are fun! But we all know when we have over eaten, over drunk, over enjoyed, over done and all at the expense of our body. Our body goes out of balance (health) and if we continue such a life style, we feel lethargic, dull, lack of energy, low appetite, gas, bloating, constipation, and we gain weight. Just like we do oil change & tune up for our car, now is good time to do “oil change”, that is to detoxify body naturally.
Your body, overtime, has accumulated toxins and body systems functions are compromised and if you do not detoxify whole body now, you may land yourself some illness. If you have come to this point, taking a short cut with vitamins or energy drinks is not the answer. In fact your “digestive fire” is already compromised & you may be harming your body by putting unnecessary doses of vitamins plus throwing your hard earned money down the drain. Turmeric Health Benefits in Preventing Cancer and How to Use?
Turmeric health benefits are numerous and is considered one the most valuable cancer preventing foods and an herbal medicine. Turmeric brings strong medicinal antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immune enhancing, and detoxifying properties. Just about half a teaspoon (2000mg) of turmeric consumed per day in the diet regularly could eliminate DNA damage characteristic of aiding cancer development. But preventing cancer is not all; there are many other significant turmeric health benefits in the following conditions:

Simple Mind Cleanse Techniques to Reduce Stress
If we don’t brush & floss everyday, gingivitis develops creating fowl smell & gum disease. Similarly, if we do not perform mind cleanse everyday, we risk mental sickness. You see mind is like a river flowing with full of new thoughts and emotions every second of the day. Myriad of thoughts & emotions, rational or irrational, just hang around and pollute the mind “river.”These thoughts & emotions must be processed daily otherwise they block the mind “river” and cause stagnation resulting accumulation of brain trash or stress. Once we clear the blockages, we reduce stress.
The challenge is to identify which thought & emotion is rational and which is irrational. This is where our Intellect has to jump in and start earning its keep. Our Intellect must separate the crazy irrational thoughts & emotions and immediately discard or reject them. If for some reason our Intellect is compromised, we will mistakenly accept irrational thoughts and start to live with them creating confusion, conflicts, stress, and basically brain trash. These thoughts need to be “flushed” or “metabolized”.
I suggest use the following techniques for mind cleanse & to reduce stress:
1. We must keep our Intellect sharp and available. Always be aware of your intellectual state. Note the Intellect is not sharp & available when we are angry, depressed, or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, etc. Our thinking ability gets warped or completely stops. Become free of these influences first. It is impossible to reduce stress when the very tool, your intellect, that helps you “flush” brain trash is not available to you.
2. Watch out for the Ego! When a compulsive thought of anger, depression or sensual craving comes in mind, our self-centered conditioning & Ego loves to give attention to it. Mind you a thought has NO power of its own. All the power is in the attention we give. So break undivided attention to selfish & destructive thought by reciting your favorite Mantra. Once the Mantra takes hold, connection between the thought & your attention is broken. The idea here is to have something to break the attention and I have found any Mantra (your favorite) will do the trick and reduce stress. You feel light and your mind becomes available for other tasks.
Remember, it is the good old 80/20 rule. Only 20% of the thoughts are worth paying attention to and the other 80% must be quickly rejected. Once we get rid of the 80%, we have more of our selves available for the real 20% that make a difference in our lives. Thus we accomplish in our life what we really need, keep our mind cleanse of clutter and reduce stress.

Can Health Care Reform and Preventive Care Fix our System?
Our health care system is broken, probably an understatement. The cost we pay under this broken system is with both our health and our wallet. Are we getting our money’s worth? Perhaps yes, in disease management but not in preventive care and health management. With health care reform and preventive care included in our health plans, we can move towards managing health.
However, we live with a belief that health care system is responsible for managing our health. I believe this fundamental belief has to change.
In order for health care reform and preventive care to work, our health attitudes must shift to take on personal responsibility of managing our own health just as we manage our financial health. How we approach our health has to change?
Take the following approach:
- Take personal responsibility- you are your first health coach.
- Practice preventive care with right diet & life style suitable for your unique mind-body.
- If you are healthy you don’t need medicine. However to stay healthy, if you choose NOT to change your unhealthy diet and life style then you have NO use for medicine.
- Don’t make the problem worse by waiting and try to find a magic pill. There is none. Preventive care is the magic pill.
Unless we change our Health Attitudes, any health care reform changes we make to the health care system in United States will not work. Let me explain:
Let us suppose we have the following health care options under the health care insurance plans:
- Alternative medicine- natural preventive health care, for example Ayurveda, Acupuncture, Yoga, Meditation etc.
- Integrative approach- alternative combined with current medical model.
- Conventional medicine- current medical model
Without changing our health attitudes, we will continue to live as we live today and after becoming sick expect the medical system to “fix” us. This means we will continue to use the last option#3. Perhaps it is too late to use preventive care options 1 or 2. Note the costs are significantly less when we use options 1 & 2.
So it seems, even if we offer preventive care options under health insurance, people will not use it till we educate them to shift their health attitudes. So we need to do both: offer all 3 options under the health insurance plans and also change our health attitudes.
Let us also clarify on what is true preventive care?
Most of us think that having regular physicals, mammograms, & other check-ups is a preventive care. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG. These are just screening tools to see, if your preventive care practice is working or not. Preventive care is a step before this step.
Preventive care is selecting right foods, life style, exercising according to your unique mind-body constitution. We are all unique and one size does not fit all. So we must discover what foods & type of life style is more suitable for us. If we think of food as medicine, we perhaps will not need any other medicine.
Our current system catches people as they are just about to fall off a cliff and cost is just too high to “save” people at this juncture.
Place preventive care (included under health insurance) at the front end and we will have fewer people falling off the cliff. Savings will be tremendous to our medical system. It is our, for profit, health care system that will realize tremendous economic benefits. But I do not see them making big strides in this direction. Well, it is my health and I not going to wait for them while I pay with my health. I need to make my own health care reform by shifting my health attitudes today. This shift in personal health attitudes is an absolutely necessary step along with health care reform and preventive care to fix health care system in United States.

This is an important intelligence that will help you understand what are your weight gain and weight loss tendencies and work with them.
You and everyone else is put together with their own unique body constitution. For our purpose, we need to discuss 3 different body constitution types but focus on the one that has the highest probability of gaining and trouble losing weight:
- One body constitution type typically light weight if gains weight can loose it quickly.
- The second body constitution typically medium weight, good muscles but does not gain weight easily.
- The third body constitution type typically large gains weight quickly in pounds but looses slowly in ounces.
It is the third body constitution type that has inherent tendency to be bigger & heavier than the other two types. The standard medical height & weight guidelines do not apply to this third body type. However, if you fall in the third type, no worries; this in itself does not place you at higher health risk. But because of the inherent body tendencies, you will need to be more vigilant about weight gain, especially as you get up in the years. Typical health risks for this body type are diabetes, high BP, and high Cholesterol.
How to Lose Weight Naturally and Fast Techniques?
Before starting, I want you to ask yourself at what weight you feel full of energy, vivacious, and good about yourself. This is the optimum weight for you and you should try to maintain yourself within + or – 4 pounds of this weight. Follow the do’s & don’t’s of lose weight naturally and fast guidelines that can be easily used at home.
1. Don’t’s- what to avoid?
- Ice cold drinks with or before meal (No sodas)
- Raw vegetables, salads etc. as a meal or in large proportions
- Heavy fried foods and red meats (do not eat anything doesn’t come out in 24 hours or less)
- Cheese, Sweets, ice cream, & sugary temptations
- Alcohol (If you must small glass of wine 1-2 times a week)
- Overeating
2. Do’s- what to eat?
- Warm cooked foods
- Oats, Barley, Quinoa, Basmati Rice, & Millets (No other grains)
- Fish, Chicken in moderation, substitute legumes (rich in protein) for meat
- All vegetables especially include Bitter Guard (Bitter Melon) 2-3 times per week. Download recipes from internet for cooking Bitter Guard. Add ginger in almost every meal to your taste. Add pinch of red pepper to your taste, if you can tolerate.
- Only sunflower seeds (avoid all other nuts)
- Berries, grapefruit, pomegranate, apples
- Use light oils like sunflower
- Drink 2-3 cups of Ginger tea per day
- Do mindful eating & listen to your body when full. Make the middle meal your biggest meal of the day.
- Keep Fast once per week with only one light meal in the middle of the day
3. Yoga Postures (optional but will additionally help you lose weight naturally and fast)
Pranayama, Sun Salutation, Most forward or backward bend poses, Cobra, Downward Dog, Upward Dog, and Shoulder Stand poses. Start slowly if you are not doing any exercises then increase frequency & intensity. If you are doing some other form of exercise, just continue that. Do exercise 3 to 4 times per week.
4. Herbal Supplements
After dinner & lunch take 1000mg of Triphala and 1000mg of Guggulu.
